Tuesday Tunes!

This week we have a double feature. The first video is You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive. The music video for the song is cheaply made, very surreal and tells no story, but the visuals are nevertheless fascinatingly strange (such as Pete Burns in a purple kimono, seemingly growing extra arms, or him with the infamous eyepatch; the other three band members tied up in some ribbons; close-ups of a disco ball, etc.). At the end the other three band members wave flags around in circles, and Burns is tied up in a gold ribbon. Check it dawg:

The second video is You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive......(2003)
I suppose the band needed a little extra cash...so they made this video...and if you thought the first one was a little weird, wait til' you see this one:

Tuesday Tunes!

You may have noticed that this post is on a Wednesday and not Tuesday, as is the usual Tuesday Tunes. If you haven't noticed that today is Wednesday, it is...Anyways, today we have a very odd music video from the 80's called "The Art of Noise". This video features: an old wooden piano systematically destroyed by chainsaws and sledgehammers and a freak punk preteen tormenting an innocent puppy with encased meats. ENJOY!

What ch'you lookin' at...

Hitting the High Note

Mystery surrounds Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. Why? A piano was discovered neat its 4,418-foot summit. The instrument was found by volunteers from the John Muir Trust, a conservation charity. "They couldn't believe their eyes," said trust director Nigel Hawkins. "The only thing that was missing was the keyboard - and that's another mystery." He added that a cookie wrapper with an exparation date of December 1986 was found under the piano, giving a clue as to when it was taken there, but not why."

Tuesday Tunes!

This week's video is by one of my favourite bands: Coldplay. It's called "The Scientist" The cool thing about this video is that it's all backwards. I've heard it took Chris Martin something like 6 months to learn the lyrics backwards. Check it out:

Since we're on the subject of music I thought I'd share some info about band names...for example:
Fall Out Boy: In their early years, they asked an audience what their name should be. Somebody yelled "Fall Out Boy." They liked it and took it, unaware that it was the name of a character on The Simpsons. When they found out, they feared they'd be sued. But The Simpsons' producers thought the band had the name first, and that they were going to be sued. (Neither was.)

Death Cab For Cutie: Named after a song written by Monty Python collaborator Neil Innes for his 1960s psychedelic group, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Coldplay: They stole it from another band that broke up, The original band got the name from a book by poet Philip Horky, entitled Child's Reflections, Cold Play

Very Inconvenient...

The document film "An Inconvenient Truth" received a lot of attention and attracted huge audiences when it was released in May 2006. The film argues that global warming caused by industrial pollution is slowly altering the Earth's climate and melting the polar ice caps, and will eventually flood major cities and leave the planet uninhabitable.

But shortly after the movie came out, "public service" commercials began appearing on TV, calling global warming a myth and claiming that carbon dioxide - a byproduct of undustrial pollution and automobile emissions (and the "villain" of the movie) - is actually not a pollutant at all, because "plants breathe it." They went on to say that industrial waste is not only harmless, it's essential to life.

So who made the "public service" ads? A think tank called the Competitive Enterprise Institute, whose member are almost exclusively oil and automobile companise, including Exxon, Arco, Ford, Texaco, and general Motors...

Tuesday Tunes: DIE! I mean... DICE!

This is just plain cool...the entire video is made up of arranged dice (although some of it is animated and not real dice :( )

While we're on the subject of little plastic things with dots on them, here is a video of the world record for the largest domino display. This isn't the entire record because apparently it lasted just under two hours :0 The display goes through different eras of music and I believe it ends with the 70's (including a full size VW van)! Check it out...

Quots (it's supposed to be quotes spelled phonetically)...you know your titles suck when you have to explain them...

Just two of my favourite quotes, one of which I heard today: "I'd like a shoe, preferably two,...a pair to be exact..."

This one is about someone who wakes up without glasses and cant quite see: "Hmm...What am I missing.....oh yeah , sharp edges."

Pastoral Pit Stop

Rev. John Hawdon was filing in for the regular vicar at Longforgan Parish Church in Perthshire, Scotland, when , during a break in the service, he had to make a pit stop...forgetting that his wireless lapel mic was still attached to his robe. The stunned congregation listened to the sounds of the reverend "peeing, sighing with relief, flushing, and washing his hands." Said on parishioner, "It was mortifying. Every sound boomed and echoed around the church. "We all sat there looking at each other, totally embarrassed. One or two folk managed a wee giggle."

just a wee giggle....
